One Can Make a Difference
Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Matthew 5:13-16 (KJV)
Jesus said you are the salt of the earth and the light of the world. These are powerful statements. Salt preserves things and light illuminates things. Salt preserves and brings out flavor. One light in a room dispels the darkness. We are to do the same things.
The United States was founded on freedom to worship God; a city on a hill to bring the Gospel to the nations.
George Washington, one man, made a big difference in the Revolutionary War and his presidency. What would have happened if he had not fulfilled his role in these? God only knows! But, he did, and 250 years later the United States still stands with the oldest constitution still in existence. One person can make a difference.
Jesus came to make a difference. Jesus saved, delivered, healed, and taught multitudes. He ministered to people and we’re called to do the same thing. One word from God that we speak can turn defeat into victory, poverty into plenty, sickness into healing, death into life, darkness into light, and hate into love. One word can give encouragement. One worship song can bring God’s presence. One act of kindness can help someone. We must do something lest we do nothing.
Consider these single individuals:
Billy Graham brought salvation to millions.
George Whitefield’s preaching brought about the first Great Awakening in America.
Martin Luther King Jr. stood for civil rights in America.
Charles Finney reached many for Christ and was instrumental in the Second Great Awakening.
One prayer can turn things around. One vote can decide the course of a government. One person can introduce a move of God to turn things around. One day of rededicating America to God through prayer, worship, and the reading of God’s Word, has set this nation back on course.
We can’t measure the impact of one soul saved, one person filled with the Holy Spirit, or one leader leading others. We are one by ourselves and when we come together, we are the body of Christ- God’s army, Holy Spirit’s vessels. We are one body with many members. Christ is the head and we are the body. We are a body of ones. One person can make a difference in the world, but the body of Christ can make a world of difference.
