Intimacy With Jesus
Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved. Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, that he should ask who it should be of whom he spake. He then lying on Jesus' breast saith unto him, Lord, who is it? Jesus answered, He it is, to whom I shall give a sop, when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon. John 13:23-26 (KJV) emphasis mine
John identified himself as the disciple leaning on Jesus’ breast, the one whom Jesus loved. When we know Jesus loves us, we will want to be with Him; to get close to Him. Any of Jesus’ followers could have gotten close to Jesus had they understood Jesus’ love for them.
When we’re close to Jesus and He is close to us, Jesus will share His heart with us. We’ll be able to hear His heartbeat and understand His heart.
Peter wanted to know who would betray Jesus so he had John ask. He could have asked Jesus himself. You can’t have a secondhand relationship with Jesus. Know Jesus for yourself. He will share things with you. To get close to Him, all you have to do is ask. When we’re close to Jesus, He will share secrets we would never know otherwise.
Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment. John 12:3 (KJV)
Mary was intimate with Jesus in that she poured fragrant oil on His feet, representing her love and devotion to Him. She had an understanding of His love for her, and, in her gratitude, loved Him back the best way she could.
Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word. But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me. And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her. Luke 10:38-42 (KJV) emphasis mine
Mary chose to sit at the feet of Jesus and hear His Word. We must choose to know and be close to Jesus. As we do, above all else, we will know who Jesus really is.
