More To Come
For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night. Thou carriest them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep: in the morning they are like grass which groweth up. In the morning it flourisheth, and groweth up; in the evening it is cut down, and withereth. Psalm 90:4-6 (KJV)
These verses talk about how short our lives really are. In comparison with eternity, life is equal to one day. It is one day because you were here on earth. Let’s look at this in the New International Version.
A thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night. Yet you sweep people away in the sleep of death— they are like the new grass of the morning: In the morning it springs up new, but by evening it is dry and withered. Psalm 90:4-6 (New International Version, NIV) emphasis mine
There it is: our lives compared to eternity is morning to evening- one day. We need to make our lives, our day, count. And yet, whatever we don’t get to do or whatever we don’t receive in this life, God gives eternity to make up for it. For example, if a loved one passed away early in life, you’ll have eternity to spend with them.
Whatever you did not get to do on this present earth, God has so much more waiting for you. His plan for you is not just for this life, but it spans eternity. In eternity, you’ll do what you “missed” here- and so much more. God’s plan starts here and now, but it extends into forever. It does not end.
All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ. Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son. He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins. He has showered his kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding. God has now revealed to us his mysterious will regarding Christ—which is to fulfill his own good plan. And this is the plan: At the right time he will bring everything together under the authority of Christ—everything in heaven and on earth. Furthermore, because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for he chose us in advance, and he makes everything work out according to his plan. Ephesians 1:3-11 (New Living Translation, NLT) emphasis mine
Ephesians 1 gives us a glimpse of God’s great plan for now and endless ages. As eternity just keeps on going, we’ll see what God has for us. Whatever we perceive that we’ve missed out on, God will make it all up to us and even more-for all eternity. Let it begin now as we wait for more to come.
