Identity And Destiny

And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Matthew 3:17 (KJV)

God, the Father, spoke from Heaven, saying of Jesus (God the Son), “This is my beloved Son,” or in other words, “This is the One whom God loves, in whom I am well pleased.”

We must hear from Heaven. we must hear God speak to our hearts and tell us who we are. No earthly voice will do. People look everywhere to “find themselves,” to find who they really are. You are who God made you. You are who God says you are. In the natural, you are male or female. In the spiritual sense, if you are born again, you are a child of God, with Christ in you and you in Him. Our identity comes from our identification with Jesus. In Christ, I am a child of God who is loved, accepted, set apart, wise, and right with God.

Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. Matthew 4:5-7 (KJV) emphasis mine

As God reveals our identity, He reveals our destiny. He determines who He made us to be and what He has for us to do. Like God confirmed who Jesus was, the Father affirms us so we know God and know that we belong to Him. This empowers us to overcome the devil just as Jesus did in Matthew 4- by speaking God’s Word. Don’t let anyone or anything steal what God says about you and has written about you in the Word. As we use the Word of God, this empowers us to hold on to our identity in Christ and who God says we are.

Our destiny is to fulfill God’s plan. As we live out God’s Word, we live out who we are. We live out our destiny.

Identify only with who God says you are based on His written Word. Only live out the destiny that God has planned for you by listening to and following God daily. Will you mess up? Certainly you will, but God can get you right back on track if you ask Him for help.

Who we are in Christ helps us walk out God’s plans for us, thus fulfilling our destiny. Identity and destiny; the two are connected and intertwined.
