The Bread of His Presence- Part 1
And thou shalt set upon the table shewbread before me alway. Exodus 25:30 (KJV)
The shewbread was to be set on the table, thus it was called the Table of Shewbread. It represented the Lord’s presence, so it was also called the Bread of His Presence. Shewbread means to tell forth or declare. Jesus showed forth Himself as the Bread of Life (John 6:35).
The Bread of His Presence was set before God continually, showing that we need God continually. We are to read His Word daily, making God’s Word our daily bread (Matthew 6:11). The bread set on the table speaks of God’s presence sustaining our life.
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. Psalm 91:1 (KJV)
This tells us to dwell in God’s presence. One way to do this is to feed on God’s written Word. By doing so, we feed on His presence. We read the Word and fill up on God’s presence. To have God’s Word is to have His presence because God and the Word are one (John 1:1-3, 14, I John 5:7).
The shewbread points to Christ as the Living Bread. As we feed on the Word, we feed on Christ. God’s written Word becomes the Living Word to us. Jesus is revealed to us as our Daily Bread Who sustains and satisfies us. As we abide in God’s Word, we dwell in His presence, thus partaking of the Bread of His Presence.
But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. Matthew 4:4 (KJV)
We don’t live by only natural bread, but every Word of God, or the Word that proceeds from God. Through the Word, we come before God, in His presence, to know Him, hear Him, feel Him, and fill up on Him. We feed on the Bread of His Presence. As we take God’s Word with us, we take God’s presence everywhere we go. Fill up on Hs Word to fill up on His Presence. Feast on the Bread of His Presence.
