Confessing The Lordship of Jesus
Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. I Corinthians 12:3 (KJV)
The word Lord in Greek is kurios, meaning one having power and authority, master, owner. In the Septuagint (The Greek translation of the Old Testament used in Jesus’ day) and in the New Testment, kurios is used like Jehovah was used in English versions of the Old Testament.
We confess Jesus is Lord by the Holy Spirit. Instead of cursing Christ, we bless Him.
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Romans 10:9-10 (KJV)
We must believe with the heart and confess with the mouth. When we confess Jesus as Lord, we are saying He is Lord over us. When we believe in our hearts that God raised Him from the dead, we’re saved. By these actions, You make Jesus your Lord and give Him authority and power over you. You acknowledge Him as your Master and Owner. You make Jesus, who is God, your God. You give Him control over your life.
Just as we make Jesus Lord at salvation by believing and confessing Him as Lord, we also proclaim His lordship to receive and enforce our salvation and all it brings. We confess it to be saved and we confess it to stay saved. The lordship of Jesus gives us salvation, safety, deliverance, health, prosperity, and protection. As we come under the lordship of Christ, all that He purchased is ours. Confessing Him as our Lord gives us access to it.
When the enemy attacks, say, ”Jesus is Lord,” to enforce your salvation, healing, protection, deliverance, or whatever you need from Him. The greater the fight, the more we should speak that Jesus is Lord. By speaking Jesus is Lord, we enforce Christ’s authority over all attacks. Everyone and everything must bow to His name and come under His lordship.
Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:9-11 (KJV)
As we believe and confess Christ and His Word (from Genesis to Revelation) we make Christ and His Word Lord over our lives. The more we believe, confess, and live for Jesus, the more we honor Him as our Lord. Jesus is Lord. He is Lord over us!
