Is Brokenness A Blessing?

Is Brokenness A Blessing?

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. Luke 4:18-19 (KJV)

That which breaks God’s heart should break our hearts: sin, hurting people, murder, divorce, theft, suicide, overdoses, violent crime, children being abused, children being stolen and sold, people trying to survive without knowing God, and the list goes on. The more sensitive we are to God, the more readily we will hurt over hurting humanity. Pray for them, and have a heart to reach as many as possible.

As people go through life, many things can try to break them. For example, sin can break them. This can be a good brokenness that leads them to repent, turning from sin and turning to God with all their heart. In so doing, they can receive empowerment from God to help them overcome sin. Everyone feels broken at times, but don’t stay there. There is healing in Jesus. He came to heal, mend, and restore us all from brokenness back to wholeness.

Our hearts should break for the right things, and when our hearts hurt for suffering humanity, we should be moved to action. Jesus was broken over man’s plight in life and He had compassion on them. He felt their hurt and met their need. Let’s follow His example. Let’s intercede, praying for others. Let’s petition God, bringing our requests before the Lord to help them. We can pray for change in their lives to take them from brokenness to wholeness, from hurt to healed, from lost to saved. And when we are able, we can take action to meet their needs ourselves. It is one of life’s greatest blessings to be the answer to someone’s prayer.

Let God use brokenness to make you His means of bringing healing and help to others. God can turn brokenness into a blessing where we are blessed, others are blessed and God Himself is blessed. Brokenness can be a blessing when it becomes a catalyst for good.
