The Knowledge of Him
That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, Ephesians 1:17-18 (KJV) emphasis mine
According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: II Peter 1:3 (KJV) emphasis mine
The goal of each and every Christian should be to know God and to continually grow in that knowledge. Knowing Jesus Christ, who is God, gives us access to wisdom, revelation, power, life, and godliness. Without the knowledge of Him, we cannot expect to receive those things. It is ever-increasing knowledge of Him that gives us more and more wisdom, power, etc. How do we gain knowedge of the Lord and how do we grow in it?
Gaining knowedge of Christ starts with receiving Him as Savior and Lord. When we give our lives to Jesus, we are taking the first step in a relationship that should grow and grow over the years of our lives. If you have never been born-again, go to our webpage called “The Most Important Thing…” and pray with sincerity the prayer of salvation we’ve provided for you.
However, once we are saved, it does not stop there. Our relationship with God is to be growing and developing. We should be getting closer to Him everyday. A relationship that is not growing does not stand still. It gets colder and more distant by the day. We are to know Him more and more. To do this, we spend time with Him everyday in His Word, in prayer, in worship, and in just being with Him to listen to Him speak to us.
A relationship in which the people do not associate or spend any time together usually falls apart. It needs to be intentional. And it needs to be increasing. Our knowledge of our spouse should increase the longer we are married to them. The same is true of our relationship with God. We need to go deeper in His Word. We need to go deeper in prayer and worship. We need to pursue Him and seek to learn more and more about Him. God wants to be in relationship with us. He wants us to find Him and find out more about Him everyday. He loves it when we seek after Him. And when we seek Him with all our hearts, He lets us find Him and shows us more of His heart.
Once we have access to more of His heart, we receive more of His wisdom, power, revelation, life, and godliness. It is always wonderful to have more of these things, but the most important result of gaining more knowledge of Jesus is simply the gaining of more knowledge of Him. Knowing Him more is the best reward itself.
Seek God. Have a heart that is hungry for the Lord. Desire Him more than the food you eat and the air you breathe. As you do, you will receive wisdom, revelation, and a whole host of other wonderful things. But more importanty, you;ll know Him closely and intimately- and it nothing can compare with that!
