Love, Joy, Peace: We See The Trinity
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23 (KJV) emphasis mine
We see the Trinity, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, in the first three parts of the fruit of the Spirit.
LOVE: The Father
And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. Romans 5:5 (KJV)
Love is the first one mentioned and it corrsponds to God the Father. I John 4:8 says that God is love. When we are born again, the Holy Spirit pours God’s love into our hearts. We receive God’s fiery, liquid love. His love is agape in the Greek, which is a self-sacrificng love. He gave His Son and continues to give to us all we need. I Corinthians 13 is a description of how God loves and relates to us.
JOY: The Son
And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves. John 17:13 (KJV)
Next mentioned is joy. Joy in the Greek is chara, which means cheerfulness, calm delight, gladness, or joy. Jesus is our joy. The joy of the Lord is our strength (Nehemiah 8:10). In His presence is fullness of joy because Christ is in us, with us, and near us. We are joyful because He is in us and we are in Him. Joy is a fruit of the Spirit based on who Jesus is, not based on our circumstances. We can rejoice no matter what. Joy comes from within because Jesus is in us.
PEACE: Holy Spirit
Peace is th third one mentioned. The Spirit of God is peace and gives peace. He brings a supernatural peace. In our hearts, we know things are all right, even when things look like they are all wrong. Peace is the Greek word eirene, which is all-inclusive of everything we need in life. This is what the Holy Spirit brings- everything we need: propsperity, quietness, rest, harmonious relationships, contentment, health, happiness, and everything good. Peace comes from a heart made right with God in Christ and given by the Holy Spirit. Peace is an assurance of one’ssalvation. Holy Spirit brings all we need as He fills us and as we grow in the fruit of the Spirit.
As we yield to the Trinity and grow in the fruit of the Spirit, we will be on our way to become more like the Three-in-One.
