Give Grace to One Another
Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man. Colossians 4:6 (KJV)
We are to give grace to one another just as God gives us grace in Christ. Grace is undeserved and unearned favor. In the Greek, grace is charis, which refers to that which bestows pleasure, delight, or causes favorable regard.
According to Vines Greek Dictionary, words of grace are words that are gracious to others, filled with lovingkindness on the part of the speaker. They bring grace, goodwill, lovingkindness, favor, blessings, and even power. To find grace means to be in favor.
Grace causes us to extend unconditional love where love covers (but does not condone) sins, faults, failures, weaknesses and shortcomings.
We are to give grace to others, love them, and help them. Be patient with them. Don’t be short-tempered or give up on them. Love never fails. Grace never fails.
We give grace to one another by:
How we talk to them.
How we treat them.
What we do for and with them.
Grace helps us to be more understanding with others, helping us to identify with them. It enables us to empathize with them and see what it is like to walk in their shoes. Grace helps us to be more soft-hearted, tender, and kind, instead of mean, hard, cold, or callous. When we speak words of love, we’re giving others grace. Give others the grace God gives us, and the grace we want will be given to us by others.
But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: Romans 5:20 (KJV)
As we grow in grace and knowledge of Jesus, we’ll grow in grace with others. We will learn to know people better while giving them grace and love. God’s grace is enough, regardless of what we go through with each other. God gives grace and more grace, even much grace to be loving, kind, and gracious to each other- just as God is gracious with us.
