God's Hope Won't Let You Down

That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, Ephesians 1:17-18 (KJV)

Paul prayed that the eyes of our understanding, or our heart, would be enlightened so we can know the hope of Christ’s calling. Hope in the Greek is elpis, meaning favorable and confident expectation. It is the divine guarantee. It describes the happy anticipation of good. Christ is our hope (I Timothy 1:1). when our hope is anchored in Christ, hope won’t fail because Christ won’t fail. Hope speaks of the future, yet it speaks of God’s fulfilled promises, for all of God’s promises are guaranteed in Christ (II Corinthians 1:20).

Knowledge is epignosis in Greek. It means exact, full knowledge, discernment, recognition. It is revelation in knowing Christ and all that’s been given to the believer. It isn’t a wish, but a knowing.The learner acquires this knowledge by illumination of Scripture by the Holy Spirit. As God illuminates Scripture to us, our eyes (our hearts) are enlightened to know what is the hope of His calling.

And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. Romans 5:5 (KJV)

Hope is a supernatural knowledge given by the Holy Spirit.

Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be. Romans 4:18 (KJV)

When all natural hope fails, God’s supernatural hope prevails. It lets us know, when all hope is gone in the natural, that all is not lost. We believe in God and have His supernatural hope. We receive hope from God’s spoken Word. He speaks His Word to our hearts, thus we have an inner picture to see what God is saying. God has the power to bring it to pass. We rejoice in God and in His hope. Knowing what God says births hope and brings it to pass.

Hope, based on Scripture, believes God based on Who God is, on His power, and on His promises. Believe and watch God turn hope into reality.
