God's Guarantee

For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself, Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee. Hebrews 6:13-14 (KJV)

God promised Abraham, then He swore, by Himself, God. Swore by Himself in the Greek means to make an unbreakable promise on the basis of Himself. Because He swore by Himself, the promise would not fail. For the promise to fail, God would have to fail. God cannot lie or fail, therefore it is a guarantee.

God just had to find someone to believe Him. He found Abraham. Will God find you believing His promises?

And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise. Hebrews 6:15 (KJV)

Abraham obtained the promise, showing us that God is our guarantee. That which God says, He has the power to perform.

For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us. Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God; Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts. II Corinthians 1:20-22 (KJV)

In Christ, all of God’s promises are guaranteed to those who believe. Earnest means a guarantee in the form of a first installment or down payment. For example, earnest money is given to guarantee the purchase of a house. The Holy Spirit is a guarantee that more is to come- now and forever. Covenant is an unbreakable agreement, cut and sealed by the blood of Christ. It is a guarantee that God keeps His promises (Ephesians 2:11-18).

When we rest in who God is, His Word, and His works, we can be assured He will come through. Christ’s finished works fulfilled Scripture, and God sent us Holy Spirit. We have a new covenant.

Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: Philippians 1:6 (KJV)

We can be sure that what God starts, He finishes. What God promises, He performs (Romans 4:20-21). God has given us guarantees in His Word to let us know that He has taken care of us, is taking care of us, and will always take care of us.

Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us; II Corinthians 1:10 (KJV)
