Healing in His Wings
But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall. Malachi 4:2 (KJV)
Wings in this verse can also refer to the fringed edges of a garment. The Jews were commanded to wear fringes, or tassels, on the edges of their garments to differentiate them from other nations (Numbers 15:37-41). The woman that we read about who had an issue of blood touched the hem of Jesus’ garment and was made well.
And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment: For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole. But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour. Matthew 9:20-22 (KJV)
This woman did not randomly come up with idea that she would be healed by touching the edge, or the fringe of Jesus’ garment. She based her belief on the Word of God, specifically on Malachi 4:2. Jesus was and is the Son of Righteousness and He arose with healing made available to us.
Today, we can touch the fringes of Jesus’ garment by faith. We can stand on the Bible verse that tells us that by the stripes, bruises, or wounds, of Jesus we’ve been healed and made whole (I Peter 2:24). There are dozens upon dozens of verses that depict God as our Healer, and we can claim them all. Those promises are the fringes we can touch with our faith.
This woman spoke what she believed, acted on it, and she had it. We can follow the same pattern to receive our healing from the Lord. He still heals. He still makes us whole. He is still the same God that heals and sets free. He is the Lord our Healer.
Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits— who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. Psalm 103:1-5 (New International Version, NIV)
