Gems Found in Psalm 100- Part 2

In yesterday’s post we discussed seeing God in Psalm 100. Today, we continue to explore this short, but meaningful Psalm, looking at seven ways it tells us we can praise the Lord.

Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations. Psalm 100:1-5 (KJV)

Verse 1 tells us to make a joyful noise. Verse 2 mentions serving the Lord with gladness. In verse 2, we are also told to come before His presence with singing. In verse 4, we see that we are to enter His gates with thanksgiving, His courts with praise, and we are to be thankful unto Him. Finally, in verse, 5, it tells us to bless His name.

God has given us a protocol to come into His divine presence. There is a divine order to come before the Lord, just as there is a correct way to come before earthly royalty. It shows us how to approach and draw near to God.

  1. Make a joyful noise

  2. Serve the Lord with gladness

  3. Come before Him with singing

  4. Enter His gated with thanksgiving

  5. Enter His courts with praise

  6. Be thankful to Him

  7. Bless His name

We come before the Lord with a joyful noise. Our God is the God of joy, not of sorrow. Because of this, we serve Him with gladness, not out of obligation. Our whole life is a song to glorify Him, and we come before Him singing songs of redemption telling who He is and telling about His love. We enter in with thanksgiving, not complaining. We don’t sing sad, defeated songs, but songs of victory and triumph. We praise God for who He is, according to His Word. Our songs are to be full of Scripture. We are thankful to Him for who He is and what He has done and will do. We bless His name by worshiping Him in spirit and truth.

These all come from our hearts and are done with a life lived according to God’s truth- His Word.

As we follow God’s divine pattern to enter His presence, we will encounter Him. We will see His power demonstrated, hear His voice, and feel His presence. As a result, we will be changed. The more time we spend with God, the more we will be like Him. Press into His presence to know Him personally.
