Gems Found in Psalm 100- Part 1
It only has five verses, but we find some valuable gems in Psalm 100. It tells us that seeing and knowing God produces praise in His presence. How do we see God in this Psalm?
1 Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. 2 Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing. 3 Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. 4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. 5 For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations. Psalm 100:1-5 (KJV)
The name Lord is found in this psalm 4 times. Lord in Hebrew is Yehovah, and means the Self-Existent or Eternal One. It is a noun meaning God. It refers to the proper name of the God of Israel: I Am (Exodus 6:2). It is most often rendered Lord or Jehovah. It is sometimes noted as Yahweh. It is God’s redemptive name and describes His character.
As we enter God’s presence, we sing to the great I Am. We know that the Lord is God. Jehovah (Yahweh) is Elohim, the Creator.
In verse 3, we see the word God, which is Elohim in Hebrew. It is a plural name meaning the supreme God, reflecting divine majesty and power. Its plurality refers to His triune nature, the Three-In- One God. He is the one true God found in Genesis 1:1. It is often paired with God’s unique name, Yehovah found in Genesis 2:4, where we see Him called Lord God. He is the Creator. His character is compassionate and merciful (Deuteronomy 4:31), gracious (Psalm 116:5) and faithful to His covenant (Deuteronomy 4:31).
This psalm tells us to know the Lord is God. How do we know this? By learning and knowing His names and His character, attributes, and works. Verse 5 says that the Lord is good, merciful, and loving. His truth, which is His Word, endures forever.
As we see the Lord God for who He is: Father, Friend, Financier, and much more, we will make a joyful noise unto Him, serving Him with gladness. Come before His presence, before His face, with singing. Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise. Be thankful to the Lord and bless the holy name of Yehovah Elohim, the Lord God, the great I Am. Amen!
