Crossing Over
Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses. Joshua 1:3 (KJV)
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: Ephesians 1:3 (KJV)
Joshua is a type and propetic picture of Jesus. The name Joshua in Hebrew is Yeshua, which means the Lord saves, or the Lord is salvation. Jesus, on the other hand, in Greek is Isous, which is the Greek form of the name Yeshua, or Joshua. Thus we see that Joshua and Jesus actually bear the same name.
And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins. Matthew 1:21 (KJV)
That which Joshua was in the Old Testament to Israel, Jesus is in the New Testament to us.
And it came to pass, when the people removed from their tents, to pass over Jordan, and the priests bearing the ark of the covenant before the people; And as they that bare the ark were come unto Jordan, and the feet of the priests that bare the ark were dipped in the brim of the water, (for Jordan overfloweth all his banks all the time of harvest,) That the waters which came down from above stood and rose up upon an heap very far from the city Adam, that is beside Zaretan: and those that came down toward the sea of the plain, even the salt sea, failed, and were cut off: and the people passed over right against Jericho. And the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the Lord stood firm on dry ground in the midst of Jordan, and all the Israelites passed over on dry ground, until all the people were passed clean over Jordan. Joshua 3:14-17 (KJV)
Joshua led the people of Israel to cross over the Jordan River, leaving the old to enter the new. As we are born again (John 3:3), we cross over from the old life to a new life. We cross from death to life, from darkness to light, from sinner to righteous. Joshua and Israel crossed over the Jordan into their promised land. After we are saved, God gives us promises from His Word. We enter our promised land at the point of salvation. As we do, every place where our feet tread, we are to take from the enemy (Ephesians 6:12). We cross over into enemy territory and we take what Christ has already died to provide for us.
What was natural for Joshua and Israel, fighting giants and taking the land by force, we do in the spiritual realm. We back all that the devil and his demons have stolen: our health, prosperity, peace, families, nations, and freedom. As we follow Jesus, our Joshua, He leads us to possess our inheritance, God’s promises.
God’s promises are what our Promised Land is made of. As we take each step by faith, walking in our authority, we possess the land. We lay claim to it all and take it all out of the enemy’s hands.
Jesus, our Joshua, is leading us on from faith to fatih, from victory to victory, and from glory to glory. We are becoming all God made us to be, doing all that He made us to do. As we follow Jesus and do as He instructs, we will possess all of our inheritance.
