Yours For The Taking

Joshua in the Old Testament is a type of Jesus in the New Testament. While it may not be obvious, Jesus and Joshua share the same name. Jesus is the same as the Hebrew word Yeshua, or as we now say it, Joshua. It means the Lord saves, or the Lord is salvation.

Now after the death of Moses the servant of the Lord it came to pass, that the Lord spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses' minister, saying, Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel. Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses. Joshua 1:1-3 (KJV)

And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins. Matthew 1:21 (KJV)

Joshua led the Israelites into the land of Canaan, the Promised Land, conquering the enemy to possess it. The land that God promised them is symbolic of all that God has promised us and provided for us. They conquered giants to possess the land. Joshua, with God’s help, saved the people from their enemies. Jesus, our Savior, conquered satan and the demons that stood in the way of us being saved (Colossians 2:15). He opened the way for us to possess our promised Land. God has given us great and precious promises and all things that pertain to life and godliness (II Peter 1:3-4). Now we must rise up and possess all God has promised us in His Word. In the Old Testament, they fought natural enemies- people of flesh and blood. Now, we fight spiritual enemies by the authority Jesus gave us (Ephesians 6:12).

After the cross of Christ and His resurrection, ascension, and His seating at God’s right hand, we fight satan and his demons. That is, we enforce what Jesus Christ won for us. We enforce the defeat of the enemy with Word of God by the name of Jesus. We have all we need to live victoriously. So, now conquer those evil forces to possess your possessions. Use your authority to bind and cast them out of your land. In the spirit, keep your feet on the enemy’s neck.

And it came to pass, when they brought out those kings unto Joshua, that Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said unto the captains of the men of war which went with him, Come near, put your feet upon the necks of these kings. And they came near, and put their feet upon the necks of them. And Joshua said unto them, Fear not, nor be dismayed, be strong and of good courage: for thus shall the Lord do to all your enemies against whom ye fight. And afterward Joshua smote them, and slew them, and hanged them on five trees: and they were hanging upon the trees until the evening. Joshua 10:24-26 (KJV)

Joshua conquered kings and took their territory, placing his foot on the enemy’s neck to show their total defeat. This is a prophetic picture of Christ and His church doing this to the devil and his demons. Now we tread on the enemy and nothing will harm us (Luke 10:19).

Walk in Christ’s victory by using your authority against the enemy and taking back everything the devil has stolen. Christ has made us the head and the enemy is the tail. The enemy is beneath our feet. Walk in victory, possessing all of God’s promises.
