Stay Faithful to God
But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face. Job 1:11 (KJV)
Stana attacked Job to pressure him to curse and reject God. Although Job did not understand what was going on and made some erroneous claims, he did not reject God. He was faithful.
Faithfulness is the bedrock of any relationship. Consider marriage. Unfaithfulness to your spouse, or fornication/ adultery (Matthew 5:32) is a strong enough reason for God to permit divorce. Unfaithfulness can cancel a covenant. God values faithfulness. What does it mean to be faithful to God?
In the Bible, God accused Israel of being unfaithful to Him by turning to other Gods. He even called them adulterous (Jeremiah 3). God used very strong language about those who were unfaithful. When someone professes faith in God, then turns away to worship other gods, it is considered being unfaithful to God. It is spiritual adultery.
We must maintain our relationship with God. If we stray away and prioritize other things, we start down a slippery slope to spiritual adultery. The Lord is our God; we are to have no others before Him (Exodus 20:3). And we must keep in mind that we can make an idol of ourselves. If we place more importance on ourselves and our flesh than we do on the Lord, doing things that please our flesh and not God, we are being unfaithful. Eventually, placing God low on our list of priorities will lead us to the point where we have no regard for the things of God. Thus, we will reject God. We will do the very thing that the devil was trying to get Job to do.
It is important to keep our love for God strong, maintaining a passion for Him and His Word. If let the enemy creep in and draw us away from God, usually starting with small things first, we can be ultimately led to curse God and turn to worshipping ourselves or false gods. The devil is subtle and cunning, but we’re not ignorant of his schemes (II Corinthians 2:11). We must stay on guard against forsaking God. We must stay faithful.
