Weep, Pray, and Watch God Work
Jesus wept. John 11:35 (KJV)
Wept in Greek is dakruo, meaning He burst into tears, then He wept silently. Prior to this, we are told that He groaned in the spirit and was troubled.
When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled. John 11:33 (KJV)
Groaned is the Greek word embrimaomai, which speaks of profound emotion involving anger. Jesus was troubled and angry. He loved His friend Lazarus who had died. Jesus felt what we feel when we lose someone we love.
I was praying for a psalmist friend of mine who recently lost his wife. I began to cry, weep, and burst into tears. I was feeling what my friend was feeling. I was experiencing what he was facing and going through. I began to pray and intercede, singing out my prayers in songs of intercession, to pray my friend through. I was interceding to see heaven invade his life.
Jesus not only wept, but He groaned in the spirit. He was angry at sin, sickness, and satan- and all they caused. However, Jesus did not just surrender to His feelings, but He stepped forward and took action. He called His friend back from the dead, and he came to back to life.
We must pray for others to free them from the misery that the fall has caused. We must weep, groan, and pray over suffering humanity. Speak the Word over them and bring them from death to life, from sickness to health, and from bondage to freedom. Our earnest, heartfelt prayers have the power to do all this in the name of Jesus.
So, care enough to do your part, and watch God do His part. You’ll see the God of miracles in action.
