Think On Who God Is

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Philippians 4:8 (KJV)

When we think on these things, we are actually thinking on God Himself, because these virtues describe who God is.

True

God is true. When God speaks, it is all true because He speaks from Himself. Whatever He promises, He will perform. When no one else is true, God remains true. You can trust God.

Honest

God is honest at all times. He never lies because there is no lie or deception in Him.

Just

God is just. His righteousness means He makes us right through Jesus. He judges rightly and will always do what is right. He’ll never do wrong or judge unfairly.

Pure

God is pure, meaning He is holy. There is no impurity in Him. That’s why sin cannot stand in His presence. His pure presence consumes up sin. As Christians, we are holy, made pure by Jesus, so we can stand in God’s presence.

Lovely

God is lovely for God is love. His loveliness is His attractiveness. Because God is love, we’re drawn to His loveliness to love Him back. We’re captured by God’s beauty. There is no one more beautiful than Him, therefore we love, worship, and adore God.

Good Report

God Himself is the good report. What He says is good news and is of a good report. God speaks good to us. His report says we are loved, chosen, protected, redeemed, delivered, blessed, wise, healed and so much more. His words spoken to us and over us are good.

Virtue

Virtue is an estimation of who God is. He is a God of excellence and power. He will do what is excellent for us, and by His power, He will bring it to pass. There is high quality in everything associated with Him. He does what is right and enables us to do so as well.

Praise

God is worthy of all praise for who He is and what He does.

We are to think on these things. Think on all God is, all He has, and all He does. We’re to keep our thoughts centered on God. As we do, we develop godly character and become more like Him. His character will shape ours.
