Look Up!
Give ear to my words, O Lord, consider my meditation. Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray. My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O Lord; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up. Psalm 5:1-3 (KJV)
Words are a form of meditation that we roll over and over in our minds and mutter to ourselves.
Prayer is our posture that positions us to look up to the Lord. we lift up our eyes to Him, from whom comes our help. When your soul is cast down, hope in God, who is the health of our countenance.
Lead me, O Lord, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make thy way straight before my face. Psalm 5:8 (KJV)
As we look to the Lord, seeking His face, He will make our way straight and clear. When we look up and turn our faces to Him, God will show us the correct path to take. As we seek God’s face, He shines down on us. He smiles on us in approval, because our ways please Him. God is the Glory and Lifter Up of our heads. As we look to Him, He lifts our heads and keeps us free from shame, condemnation, and blame. Like the Good Shepherd that He is, Jesus lifts us up and draws us close to Him. He carries us close to His heart.
As we look up, we take our eyes off of what is going on around us. We see things from a higher view, from God’s perspective. And we see the Lord, high and lifted up, ruling over whatever comes against us. As we lift up our eyes to see Jesus, we see him lifted up as the resurrected King.As we look to Jesus, we see Him as our Savior, Lord, Healer, Provider, Protector, Sustainer, amd Satisfier.
Look up, not down or around. When we look down, we feel down. When we look around, we get discouraged. However, when we look up, we see Jesus, the One who has empowered us to overcome.
Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee. Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established. Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil. Proverbs 4:25-27 (KJV)
Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:1-2 (KJV)
We don’t look to the right or left, but our gaze is fixed straight ahead on Jesus as we run our race. We look up to Jesus, the One who is high and lifted up. We give Him thanks, praise, worship, glory, honor, and blessing.
But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee. For thou, Lord, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield. Psalm 5:11-12 (KJV)
We rejoice and shout for joy because the Lord defends us. We love His Name, so we are joyful in and because of Him. The Lord blesses us and crowns us wth favor. We walk with our heads held high as we look up to Jesus. As we pray and worship Jesus Christ, our eyes are on Him; we look up!
