Show Me Thy Ways, O Lord!
Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight, shew me now thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight: and consider that this nation is thy people. Exodus 33:13 (KJV)
Knowing God’s ways leads us to knowing God. His ways are found in His Word. The Word reveals God to us. By God’s grace, we find God’s ways. God’s grace opens the door to God’s ways, which then lead us to God and His presence.
Shew me thy ways, O Lord; teach me thy paths. Psalm 25:4 (KJV)
David cried out to God for Him to show him His ways and teach him His paths. We must know more than God’s miracles. We must know God’s ways; how He does things. We must know God personally by His Word and through personal experience. We can see what he does for us, and yet deeper still, we need to know His ways. His ways are love, wisdom, forgiveness, righteousness, peace, joy, and selflessness. Sometimes God’s ways don’t make sense to our minds, but in our hearts we know it is right.
God’s way is the straight and narrow. When others pursue sin, we pursue God. His ways are to seek Him, wait for Him, listen to Him, and obey Him. We must worship God and live in His presence to live for Him.
And the Lord spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. And he turned again into the camp: but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the tabernacle. And Moses said unto the Lord, See, thou sayest unto me, Bring up this people: and thou hast not let me know whom thou wilt send with me. Yet thou hast said, I know thee by name, and thou hast also found grace in my sight. Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight, shew me now thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight: and consider that this nation is thy people. And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest. And he said unto him, If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence. For wherein shall it be known here that I and thy people have found grace in thy sight? is it not in that thou goest with us? so shall we be separated, I and thy people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth. Exodus 33:11-16 (KJV)
Moses kept referring to finding grace. Grace is the open door to God’s way. Then faith helps us to walk down the path of God’s way. God’s ways are to teach, train, and touch us along the way. If we go on to walk in the ways of the Lord- the ways of justice and mercy- we will walk down paths that God has planned and prepared for us. Walking in His ways, step-by-step, day-by-day, we walk with Him and get to know, hear, and feel God.
Teach me thy way, O Lord, and lead me in a plain path, because of mine enemies. Psalm 27:11 (KJV)
God teaches us His ways and shows us the way to go. As we walk in God’s word, we walk in His way. As we do, we know God better and better everyday, until we see Him face-to-face.
