The Reason and Purpose of Life
Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created. Revelation 4:11 (KJV)
The reason and purpose of life is to know God. We were created to give Him glory, honor, and power for God is the Creator of all things. It is for God’s pleasure that all created things are and were created.
We bring God pleasure when we know Him, and when we acknowledge Him by honoring and glorifying Him. We honor Him by how we live our lives. God is honored when we live for Him.
Once we find the reason for life, which is God, then God gives us a reason to live. We know Him by revelation from His Word, through Jesus Christ His Son, and by the Holy Spirit Who reveals God to us. Holy Spirit teaches us about Him and leads us into all truth; the truth of who God is. As we find and know God, He reveals Himself and shares His heart with us.
The reason and purpose for life is to know God, doing life with Him and enjoying a close relationship with Him. It is the relationship of Father and child, talking and listening. Whether in worship or work, God is with us in all we do. He is the focus and heart of all we do.
Life is not about how much we can get, but how much we can give. It isn’t about who knows us or what we can accomplish. It’s about knowing God and God knowing us through a deep, personal, intimate relationship. We can have a personal relationship with the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.
God is so big- yet bigger still. He has enough room in Himself for all of us- and yet there’s still room in His heart for more. He is infinite, meaning He has no beginning or end. He is infinite and eternal.
If you go through life having never known God, you’ll have missed the very reason and purpose you were born. And you’ll miss God for all eternity. When we find God, we find the ultimate reason and purpose of it all. Find God. Know God, Fellowship with and bring pleasure to God by living for Him. It’s why you were created.
