Love Is Worth It All
Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned. Song of Solomon 8:7 (KJV)
Love in this verse is the Hebrew word ahabah, which speaks of a love between a husband and wife, denoting sexual activity. it also refers to love between friends. Many waters cannot quench love. No adversity can put out love’s fire if we choose not to let it. Floods cannot drown it or wash it away. Don’t let anyone erode your love for each other. It can’t if you don’t let it.
Set me as a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm: for love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame. Song of Solomon 8:6 (KJV)
Love is as strong as death. As spouses, we love each other until death do us part. We are to love unto the end. Love is stronger than death. Although one dies, death can’t kill our love. This says that jealousy is as cruel, or hard, as the grave. Have a jealous love to protect your love for your spouse. This is not an unreasonable jealousy, but a love that puts the relationship as your highest desire, except for your relationship with God. God is jealous of us out of His love for us. We’re to have the same kind of love for our mate. God will fight for us to have us, and we are to do the same for our spouse. We must fight hate that tries to separate love. We must fight strife with peace that helps us stay bound together. Fight with the knowledge you have of your mate to keep them.
A seal speaks of ownership. As spouses, we belong to each other and no one has the right to any part of our love relationship. Love, like death, is persistent. It loves until it reaches its desired purpose. Obtain what you go after, in this case, love for one another. Work on your relationship and make the effort to build and sustain your love. Keep love alive, and stay together.
Verse 7 above tells us that you can’t buy love. According to Proverbs 31, you can’t put a price on a virtuous wife. That which God has given you both in marriage is worth more than anything in life. You can’t buy love, but you can give love to each other as a free gift. Love, especially the love between a godly husband and wife, is worth it all.
