Your Mouth
Today I am going to share a few verses from the Psalms that talk about our mouths and what we should do under pressure.
Thou hast proved mine heart; thou hast visited me in the night; thou hast tried me, and shalt find nothing; I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress. Psalm 17:3 (KJV)
This tells us that we are tested and tried. We are to be faithful and true by not transgressing with our mouths. We are to speak right words, being determined not to sin with our mouths. By speaking right with a right heart, we’ll see right results.
When we’re in a trial, we must not sin with our mouths by complaining, being negative, speaking fear, speaking doubt, speaking unbelief, or speaking defeat. Pass the test to move on to God’s best by speaking right words.
They also that seek after my life lay snares for me: and they that seek my hurt speak mischievous things, and imagine deceits all the day long. But I, as a deaf man, heard not; and I was as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth. Thus I was as a man that heareth not, and in whose mouth are no reproofs. Psalm 38:12-14 (KJV)
There is a time to be silent. When others come against us and mistreat us, speaking lies and damaging things about us and to us, we must not receive what they say, and we should be quiet so we don’t speak the wrong thing. Jesus kept His tongue, being silent as a lamb led to the slaughter. Yet, in the end, God vindicated Jesus because Jesus had committed His case to God. God judged Him faithful.
I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me…. I was dumb, I opened not my mouth; because thou didst it. Psalm 39:1, 9 (KJV)
We must watch what we say when we are around the wicked. We mustn’t give them any ammunition to use against us. We are to bridle our tongues like a horse, keeping our mouths under control.
My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding. Psalm 49:3 (KJV)
Let our mouths speak wisdom, not foolishness. Speak what God is doing for you instead of what the devil is trying to do to you. We must meditate and think on the right things so our understanding is enlightened and not confused. Give everything to God and rest.
O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise. Psalm 51:15 (KJV)
Our mouths are to praise God for who He is and what He has and will do for us. This helps us keep our focus on God and not on our challenges. When we turn our problems into praise, we see fulfilled promises.
Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips. Psalm 141:3 (KJV)
Surrender your mouth to the Lord. Let God keep guard over your words so you speak the right things for right results.
We must use our mouths to work for us and not against us. When we do, we’ll see God’s goodness in our lives.
