Redeeming The Time
Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Ephesians 5:16 (KJV)
In the Greek, the word redeem means to purchase, to buy up, to ransom, to rescue from loss. It often spoke of buying a slave with the intent of freeing him. It comes from the Greek word exagorazo. Let’s look at this verse in a couple other translations.
making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Ephesians 5:16 (English Standard Version, ESV)
Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Ephesians 5:16 (New Living Translation, NLT)
Time is a valuable commodity. We must make the best use of our time and opportunities.
Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time. Colossians 4:5 (KJV)
Life is made up of time and seasons. Days, weeks, months, and years come and go. As we live our lives to the best of our ability, we’ll end up with fewer and fewer regrets. If we miss an opportunity, we may never get it back. We can request that God give us new opportunities, but we must learn from our mistakes so we won’t waste any new opportunities He may give us.
As we make the most of our time, we will use wisdom as to how we live, instead of wasting our time. We will make up, or buy up, lost time. We must use time to our advantage rather than to our disadvantage. We can let time work for us and not against us. We can gain in wisdom, in goods, and in so many other ways if we allow time to do what it is intended to do.
Time is made of seasons. Use it to plant seed do you’ll reap a good harvest. Use time with faith and patience to see the fulfilled promises, prophecy, and purpose.
Use God’s wisdom on how to use time. Don’t waste time, or you’ll be wasting your life. Life is made up of time. What we do with time is how we spend our lives. So buy up, or make the best use of, time to be all God created you to be and do all He gave you to do. We fulfill purpose one day at a time. Christ redeemed us and our time. It is His gift to us, and what we do with it is our gift to Him.
making the very most of your time [on earth, recognizing and taking advantage of each opportunity and using it with wisdom and diligence], because the days are [filled with] evil. Ephesians 5:16 (Amplified Bible, AMP)
