Complete Restoration
Then spake Elisha unto the woman, whose son he had restored to life, saying, Arise, and go thou and thine household, and sojourn wheresoever thou canst sojourn: for the Lord hath called for a famine; and it shall also come upon the land seven years. And the woman arose, and did after the saying of the man of God: and she went with her household, and sojourned in the land of the Philistines seven years. And it came to pass at the seven years' end, that the woman returned out of the land of the Philistines: and she went forth to cry unto the king for her house and for her land. And the king talked with Gehazi the servant of the man of God, saying, Tell me, I pray thee, all the great things that Elisha hath done. And it came to pass, as he was telling the king how he had restored a dead body to life, that, behold, the woman, whose son he had restored to life, cried to the king for her house and for her land. And Gehazi said, My lord, O king, this is the woman, and this is her son, whom Elisha restored to life. And when the king asked the woman, she told him. So the king appointed unto her a certain officer, saying, Restore all that was hers, and all the fruits of the field since the day that she left the land, even until now. II Kings 8:1-6 (KJV)
The Shunamite woman had to leave her home and land because a famine was coming. A famine can be a picture of the taking away of what was ours, a changing from fruitfulness to barrenness. She left because of a seven-year famine. When the famine had ended, she cried to the king for restoration since she had acted on the Word of the Lord through the Prophet Elisha. We too can cry to our king, King Jesus, for restoration.
God used Elisha and He still uses prophets today because He is the same always. God had set this whole event up so that as Gehazi, Elisha’s servant, was telling the king of Elisha raising the Shunamite’s son from the dead, she arrived with her son to verify the story. God lines things up for us. He sets us up to overcome a setback and to restore what was lost and give us a comeback. What had been lost through those seven years of famine were fully restored.
The king told an officer to restore all that had belonged to the Shunamite woman, including all the fruits of the field from day she left until her return. Not only will God restore to us what was lost in a dry season that we’ve been through, but He’ll pay back the proceeds that would have been ours had it been in our possession the whole time.
God keeps track of what you lost every single day and will restore. The famine was for seven years, and in Scripture seven represents completion, perfection, rest, and the sabbath. God will restore everything COMPLETELY and PERFECTLY from the first day until now.
What God has in store is to restore.
It will be better than before;
Even giving you more.
Because God is a good Lord.
