The Supernatural God of the Miraculous

From the beginning to the end of God’s written Word, we see and experience God as a supernatural God. God is a spirit and does the miraculous, from creating the heavens and earth to Christ’s first coming to the rapture of the church to Christ’s coming to the earth the second time. Man’s new creation, being born again, is miraculous. Being filled with the Holy Spirit and given a new language of tongues is supernatural. God is a supernatural, miraculous God.

To put it simply, a miracle is when the supernatural overrides the natural realm. There are many miracles noted in the Bible- past, present, and future.

For example, God can stop time, move time forward or backward. God stopped time when Joshua told the sun to stand still to give Israel time to defeat their enemy. On the other hand, God quickened time and moved it ahead when Jesus, the disciples, and their boat was moved from the midst of the sea to land in an instant (John 6:16-21)

There are miracles of healing, where that which would take time in the natural to heal is accomplished by God in an instant (Acts 3:6-9, 16). This is available by the power that’s in Jesus’ name when paired with faith.

And it came to pass after these things, that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so sore, that there was no breath left in him. And she said unto Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? art thou come unto me to call my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son? And he said unto her, Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into a loft, where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed. And he cried unto the Lord, and said, O Lord my God, hast thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son? And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried unto the Lord, and said, O Lord my God, I pray thee, let this child's soul come into him again. And the Lord heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived. I Kings 17:17-22 (KJV)

Raising the dead is definitely a miracle- the life of God overrides death. That’s supernatural indeed. Another type of the miraculous is when we experience a financial miracle.

Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant did fear the Lord: and the creditor is come to take unto him my two sons to be bondmen. And Elisha said unto her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thine handmaid hath not any thing in the house, save a pot of oil. Then he said, Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, even empty vessels; borrow not a few. And when thou art come in, thou shalt shut the door upon thee and upon thy sons, and shalt pour out into all those vessels, and thou shalt set aside that which is full. So she went from him, and shut the door upon her and upon her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured out. And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son, Bring me yet a vessel. And he said unto her, There is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed. Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, Go, sell the oil, and pay thy debt, and live thou and thy children of the rest. II Kings 4:1-7 (KJV)

This widow was given supernatural debt freedom and supply. She was able to pay her debts and live on the remainder. We can expect the same. God is no respecter of persons.

I’ve given you just a few examples of supernatural miracles from the Scriptures. We could list many more, from the creation of man to the virgin birth to man becoming new creations in Christ. Our prayer language of tongues is supernatural. Jesus lived a supernatural life on the earth, performing many miracles. He set the example for us to follow (Hebrews 13:8). Jesus told us that in His name we can do the works He did and greater works (John 14:12).

God is calling us to a higher kind of life. He is calling us not to be bound by the natural, but to live a supernatural life of abundance in Christ.
