Hell Is Not A Vacation Destination

There are many people who laugh and say that hell is a place to party with all their sinner friends. Some people don’t even believe there is such a place. That is one of the devil’s greatest deceptions- to get us to believe there is not a devil and that there is no such place as hell. The Word of God talks about hell extensively. Jesus mentioned it on numerous occasions.

While the sons and heirs of the kingdom [the descendants of Abraham who will not recognize Me as Messiah] will be thrown out into the outer darkness; in that place [which is farthest removed from the kingdom] there will be weeping [in sorrow and pain] and grinding of teeth [in distress and anger].” Matthew 8:12 (Amplified Bible, AMP)

Here Jesus called it outer darkness, showing us that there is no light at all in hell. Total, complete darkness and torment beyond comprehension are what is found in hell. Picture being in a place where you couldn’t see a thing. How terrifying.

And if your eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell, where “‘the worms that eat them do not die, and the fire is not quenched.’ Mark 9:47-48 (NIV)

Jesus said that hell is a place where worms eat your flesh and fire burns you forever.

But Abraham said, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things [all the comforts and delights], and Lazarus likewise bad things [all the discomforts and distresses]; but now he is comforted here [in paradise], while you are in severe agony. Luke 16:25 (Amplified Bible, AMP)

In hell, its inhabitants remember their former lives. Imagine not just being tormented forever with physical agony and terror beyond description, but with remembrances of all the times in your earthly life where you had the opportunity to accept Jesus but didn’t!

I think that the worst aspects of hell are that it is a place full of fear, and there is no hope Those in hell are full of fear continuously. They have no relief of any kind and there is absolutely no way they will ever get out. There are people in hell who have been there thousands of years and have no hope of ever being released. As a matter of fact, it will only get worse. At the end of days, all those in hell will stand before God for sentencing at the white throne judgment, and then hell and all who were in hell will be thrown into the lake of fire forever and ever. Wow.

And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. Revelation 20:14 (KJV)

Hell is a very real place, and it is definitely not a vacation destination. Such horrific pain and agony are found there. It was made for the devil and his fallen angels, but sadly, many people will end up there because they’ll choose not to accept Jesus and His substitutionary death. I encourage you to study more about hell to understand what Jesus died to save us from. Using a concordance, look up the words hell, hades, sheol, gehenna, and outer darkness. All of these are names or references to hell.
