Silent Before the Lord

Silent Before the Lord

Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. Psalm 46:10 (KJV) emphasis mine

The Psalms talk a lot about being silent before the Lord.

Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation….. My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him. Psalm 62:1, 5 (KJV)

Waiteth in this passage means to be silent before the Lord. It means there are times when we are to be quiet and still, waiting on God.

Our soul waiteth for the Lord: he is our help and our shield. Psalm 33:20 (KJV)

As we wait and are silent, listening and drawing near to God, we quiet and calm ourselves so we can begin to know and hear God. It allows us to experience Him and lets Him to minister to us. He’ll minister His peace, joy, love, hope, happiness, health, and everything good that is in Him. When we are silent and still, we can encounter God and feel His presence. We allow God to love on us, and we can receive that love. Being with God like this lightens our hearts and enlightens our hearts. We can see God and gain His perspective on things so we don’t let little things bother us.

The more time we spend with God, the more we can draw from Him and be filled with Him. This prevents that which is on the outside from getting on the inside of us. Silence before the Lord provides many benefits. We find rest, peace, answers, healing, provision, direction, revelation, and the Lord Himself. We exchange all our cares and receive God’s care. We experience anew how much He loves us.

I encourage you to sit at Jesus’ feet today and be silent, Receive His words. It will be your joy and delight.
