The Greatest Gift
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16 (KJV)
God loved the world, everyone in it, so He gave us Jesus. Those who believe in Jesus won’t perish, but will receive everlasting life, both now and forever. God gave us the greatest gift- His own Son, Jesus. We couldn’t earn eternal life, but we were in need of it.
Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. Matthew 1:23 (KJV)
Jesus came wrapped in flesh (John 1:1-3, 14). He was and is Emmanuel, God with us. God the Father is the greatest Giver. Jesus is the greatest Gift. Holy Spirit is the greatest Guide. The Father gave the gift of Jesus. Holy Spirit guided Jesus to Mary for His conception- to be born of a virgin (Matthew 1:18-25).
We can receive many gifts that we can enjoy for a while- some even for a lifetime. However, Jesus, the greatest Gift, will last forever. We can enjoy Him by accepting Him as Savior and Lord. Receive Him now, everyday, and forever. After Christmas has come and gone, Jesus remains. Jesus, the greatest Gift, gives us what we really need- Himself. He came to be our Savior, Lord, Friend, God, Provider, Healer, Protector, and everything we need.
When we unwrap the gift of Jesus, we see Him for who He is. The more we unwrap Him by looking into God’s Word, the more Jesus is revealed to us. We see Him in ways we never saw Him before. The Living Word becomes real and alive to us. As we unwrap who Jesus is by studying God’s Word, we unwrap ourselves as well, becoming more transparent to Him and being real with Him.
The more we see how much Jesus loves us, we surrender and love Him even more. Focusing on how He laid His life down for us, giving of Himself, keeps us aware of His deep love for us and the Gift that He really is.
When we have Jesus, we can be satisfied and know that He will provide all we need. When we receive the greatest Gift, we will want to be givers too. We’ll want to give the greatest Gift to others so they can receive Jesus and all He is and has.
