Another Helper
And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; John 14:16 (KJV)
Comforter in Greek is parakletos, which means comforter, counselor, helper, intercessor, advocate, strengthener, and standby.
As Jesus was and is a Helper, He said He would pray that the Father would send us another Comforter, or Helper. Another means one of the very same kind. In other words, Jesus and Holy Spirit are identical, since the Father, Son ad Holy Spirit are one God in three Persons.
Holy Spirit has continued Jesus’ ministry here on the earth for and through Christ’s body, the church. Having Holy Spirit in us and with us is similar to the way the disciples had Jesus with them when He was on earth. The way that Jesus helped His disciples is now how Holy Spirit helps us, except Holy Spirit can be with each of us all the time.
Holy Spirit helps us know Jesus, see Jesus, hear Jesus, and experience Jesus with our spirits. Holy Spirit helps us to be better Christians, sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, husbands, wives, parents, etc. He is here to teach us, and lead us into all truth. He is here to anoint us. He brings God’s Word back to our memory. He gives us power to overcome and be God’s witnesses. He shows us how to rightly divide the Word of Truth. He enables us to pray in tongues so we can talk to God in a heavenly language. We pray in tongues to ask for an asnwer and we can receive an answer through an interpretation of tongues. He gives us power to overcome sin, the flesh, the world, and the devil. He shows us things to come. He helps us to do things better and easier. He helps us to know the Trinity. He helps, strengthens, teaches, leads, and shows us what we need now for our lives. He helps us to operate in His gifts (I Corinthians 12).
Holy Spirit is our Helper, so don’t go it alone. Let your Helper help you!
