Holy Spirit Helps

Today, I want to spend a few moments refreshing our minds on the many ways the Holy Spirit works in our lives. He is our Comforter (John 16:7), Counselor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, and Standby. As the third member of the Trinity, and co-equal with the Father and the Son, He is the presence and power of God currently on this earth.

  • The Holy Spirit causes us to be born again (John 3:5-8).

  • The Holy Spirit reveals Jesus so we know Him (John 15:26, II Corinthians 5:16-17).

  • The Holy Spirit helps us to pray (Romans 8:26-30).

  • The Holy Spirit helps us to worship (John 4:24, I Corinthians 14:5, 15-18, Ephesians 5:18-20).

  • The Holy Spirit helps us know God’s Word (John 14:26).

  • The Holy Spirit anoints us to know the truth (I John 2:20, 27).

  • The Holy Spirit helps us to love (Romans 5:5).

  • The Holy Spirit is our Standby (John 16:7, John 14:7).

  • The Holy Spirit helps us to be Christlike (Romans 8:26-29).

  • The Holy Spirit teaches us (John 14:26, John 15:26, John 16:13).

  • The Holy Spirit helps us to live life in the Spirit (Romans 8:1-11).

  • The Holy Spirit strengthens us (Ephesians 3:14-21).

  • The Holy Spirit gives us assurance of our sonship (Romans 8:12-17).

  • The Holy Spirit communicates God’s love to us (Romans 8:31-39).

  • The Holy Spirit gives us an inner witness to know what is true and what is right (I John 5:6, 9, 10).

  • The Holy Spirit helps us be fruitful (Galatians 5:22-23).

  • The Holy Spirit is holy and will produce holy character in us (Galatians 5:16, 22-25).

  • The Holy Spirit helps us to be witnesses for Christ (Acts 1:8).

  • The Holy Spirit will provide leading for our lives (Romans 8:14).

  • The Holy Spirit leads and guides us into all truth (John 14:26, John 16:13). According to Rick Renner, the Greek shows that the Holy Spirit is a guide who shows the traveler the safest course through an unknown country.

  • The Holy Spirit helps us live a supernatural life (John 16;13, I Corinthians 12:7-11).

However, I am telling you nothing but the truth when I say it is profitable (good, expedient, advantageous) for you that I go away. Because if I do not go away, the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, Standby) will not come to you [into close fellowship with you]; but if I go away, I will send Him to you [to be in close fellowship with you]. John 16:7 (Amplified Bible Classic Edition, AMPC)

We can have close fellowship with the Holy Spirit. Since He does so much for us, why wouldn’t we want to be in close relationship with our Friend and constant Companion, the Holy Spirit?
