Psalm 91 Promises

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation. Psalm 91:1-16 (KJV)

This Psalm is activated by living in God’s presence and by saying that the Lord is your refuge; by speaking and claiming this for yourself. This Psalm references dwelling under the wings of the Lord and making Him your habitation, or dwelling place. This speaks of living in God’s presence, making it your lifestyle.

This psalm speaks of God as our deliverer, our rescuer. It tells who God is and Who He is to us. He is the most High, which is the Hebrew name El Elyon, meaning above it all or saying that there is no one greater. He is Almighty, or the Hebrew name El haddai, meaning He has the power and might to do what He promises. He is referenced as Lord, orYahweh in Hebrew, which means He is the God who is who we need Him to be at any time. When we need provision, He is our provider. When we need protection, He is our protector. He is also called our Refuge and Fortress. This is Elohim, meaning that His power and might as Creator is available to help when we call on His name.

In Him, there is no fear of terror, disease, or accidents- they won’t come near you. He will see that evil doers are dealt with. No evil, no calamity, will happen to us. We can count on angelic assistance, since as heirs of salvation, angels are sent to minister to us (Hebrews 1:14). As we speak this Psalm, and other Scripture, God’s angels work on our behalf.

We shall tread on the lion and the adder, which means we have been given divine authority. We will walk all over the enemy, and it will not harm us. Ephesians 6:10 tells us to be strong in the Lond. As we spend time with the Lord, He empowers us and equips us to bind and resist the enemy and keep him under our feet.

Because we love God, He delivers us and sets us on high, meaning He promotes us. Spending time in God’s presence takes us higher in God and in all He has for us. Because we know His name, we have a person-to-person relationship with God. We can live in His presence and walk in His Word. As we do, this produces long life. We will have a full life in both quantity and quality. We will see God’s salvation, or His victory, in every area of life. We will enjoy God’s promises, presence, person, power, provision, and protection!

What a psalm! I encourage you to make this psalm a part of your daily confession and devotion.
