To Behold the Beauty of the Lord

To Behold the Beauty of the Lord

In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple. Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly. And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory. Isaiah 6:1-3 (KJV)

One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in his temple. Psalm 27:4 (KJV)

Isaiah the prophet saw the Lord upon His throne. He saw seraphim crying out, “Holy! Holy! Holy!” There were three cries of holy, one for each member of the Trinity. Holiness is a characteristic of God. To see God, we must separate ourselves from sin. Many things will try to draw us away and distract us from beholding God. There are many counterfeits that, like fool’s gold, look like the real thing but are just an imitation. Anything that takes God’s place in our lives is fool’s gold, not the real thing. All that glitters is not gold, or as we should say, all that glitters is not God.

In the tabernacle of the Old Testament, the ark of the covenant was a wooden chest overlaid with pure gold upon which the presence of God dwelled (Exodus 25:10-22, 37:1-9). Gold represents God and His presence. Wood represents humanity. The ark showed both Christ’s deity and His humanity. Jesus Christ tabernacled, or dwelled, among us. He became man. Now man is the temple of God and we carry His presence.

As we behold the Lord, He will make us clean and give us clean hearts- hearts to desire Him and Him alone. And we will seek God’s presence all our days to behold the beauty of the Lord. Don’t seek imitation beauty. Don’t replace His beauty with other glittery things such as relationships, material possessions, achievements, and so forth. God’s beauty will actually beautify us and make our lives beautiful.

Truly, God is more beautiful than anyone or anything. Nothing else can compare. Once we behold Him, we are no longer attracted by fool’s gold. God’s glory and his beauty will hold our attention so we keep our eyes focused and fixed on Him.

Let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith Hebrews 12:1-2 (KJV)

We will run and finish our race as we behold God’s face and glory. Then, one day, we will see God face to face, beholding His beauty and glory, as we fall down crying “Holy! Holy! Holy!”
