Do Your Best

If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. Romans 12:18 (KJV)

But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another. Galatians 6:4 (KJV)

But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. I Corinthians 11:28 (KJV)

These verses speak of doing our best, doing what is our responsibility, and examining ourselves. we are to do our best to maintain hearts that are right with God, others, and ourselves.

We must treat others right. It is our responsibility to to do our best for them. And when it seems that it’s never enough for them or that they have let us down despite our treatment of them, we must keep our hearts right. We cannot become harsh or bitter, but we turn them over to God. In our hearts, we know we’ve done our best. That’s all God requires of us; that we give our best effort. Notice that the verse from Romans 12 tells us to live in peace with others as much as it is possible for us to do so. That means that we do our part and if the other guy doesn’t respond in kind, then so be it. We can’t control others, but we can control ourselves. Each person will have to answer to God for their own actions and attitudes.

You can’t make others do the right thing, so choose to do what is right no matter how others respond. You’ll have the peace of knowing you did what the Lord wanted. You can be at peace with yourself as you go on and live for God, and God will bless you for doing what’s right.
