T.G.I.F.

There’s a saying, “All good things must come to an end.” While it may sound good, it isn’t true. God is good, and He is without beginning or end!

He has planted eternity in the human heart. Ecclesiastes 3:11 (New Living Translation, NLT)

I have come up with a new meaning for T.G.I.F. Instead of “Thank God It’s Friday,” I like to say it means, “Thank God It’s Forever!” We are eternal beings made in the image and likeness of an eternal God. Within each of us is the belief that there is something beyond this life. God put that inside us; He has planted eternity in our hearts. That is why the thought of no life after death, the thought of people simply ceasing to exist, just doesn’t feel right to us. Deep down, we all know it isn’t true.

We are made to exist forever. Physical death does not kill the soul and spirit. Every human ever conceived will spend eternity somewhere- either in heaven or hell. Even those who do not choose Jesus will continue on after they die- but they will be living in a place that is a thousand times worse than anything we can imagine.

How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. James 4:14 (New Living Translation, NLT)

Those of us who have made Jesus our Savior will have a glorious future. Our eternity will be with Him forever and ever. This life is temporary, and it is brief, but the life we will live after this one will extend out in front of us forever.

Give thanks to the Lord of lords. His faithful love endures forever. Psalm 136:3 (New Living Translation, NLT)

The unsaved and unbelieving cling to this earthly life because they fear what is on the other side of death. They have no promise of living in peace, joy, and love forever. Their ending is not “happily ever after,” but “torment day and night.” But, for us, the mercy, the lovingkindness, and faithfulness of the Lord endures forever.

T.G.I.F.- Thank God it’s forever!
