Be Wise Now

Psalm 2 is a Messianic psalm; a prophecy of the return of Jesus, the Christ, the Anointed One.

Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure. Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel. Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him. Psalm 2:1-12 (KJV)

This psalm speaks of the nations and their leaders rejecting and rebelling against God and Jesus Christ. They don’t want Jesu to rule over them so they decide to break away from God. They reject God and Christ’s rule over them. But, God sits in the heavens above them, above the people and their plots and plans against Him. God will deal with them. He shall vex, or trouble, them for their rebellion. God has put rebels down before and He is doing it today.

God will set Jesus as King over all the earth, and He will rule the nations. Jesus will get His inheritance- the nations and the earth- and will reign over them. When He comes to earth the second time, He will put down rebellion, and He will rule for 1,000 years- a period called the Millenium, or the Millenial Reign of Christ.

In Psalm 2, it tells us to kiss the Son, which means to serve Jesus, lest we perish. God tells us to submit to and serve Jesus now. Submit to His kingship, authority and rule. It is not oppressive to submit to Jesus, but instead it is liberating. If we do so now, we will rule with Him later.

God’s will is for all to be saved and reign with Christ during the millenium. He does not want even one person to perish. Blessed are those who put their trust in the Lord, who submit to His kingship, serve Him in love, and qualify to reign with Him now, for 1,000 years, and for all eternity!
