Loving God Positions Us To Know God

But if any man love God, the same is known of him. I Corinthians 8:3 (KJV)

God knows His own. God knows who loves Him and lives by the way of love. We can go our way or God’s way. God’s way always wins for it puts others before self. I Corinthians 8 bears this out. To know God, we must love because God is love (I John 4:8, 16).

But if one loves God truly [with affectionate reverence, prompt obedience, and grateful recognition of His blessing], he is known by God [recognized as worthy of His intimacy and love, and he is owned by Him]. I Corinthians 8:3 (Amplified Bible Classic Edition, AMPC)

Loving God positions us to know God. The more we love Him, the more intimately we know Him. God is able to share His heart with us because we’re trustworthy based on our love for Him. We can only trust others as much as they show themselves to be trustworthy by how much they walk in love.

But if anyone loves God [with awe-filled reverence, obedience and gratitude], he is known by Him [as His very own and is greatly loved]. I Corinthians 8:3 (Amplified Bible, AMP)

Jesus said that if we love Him, we’ll keep His commandments, or His Word (John 14:15). His commandment is to love one another as He has loved us. There is no greater love than to lay down your life for others.

To know God is to love God by obedience, thus opening up a way to know Him and for Him to know and call you His own. A Father of love recognizes and acknowledges a child of love. Because God is love, we are born of love.

Loving each other and ourselves opens the way for intimacy, to know each other deeper and closer. The more we love, the more God knows us and reveals Himself to us. Therefore, we know God more and then love Him even more.
