Chasing the Unseen
While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal. II Corinthians 4:18 (KJV)
We don’t look at, or focus on, the things that are seen. We focus on that which is not seen. Paul tells us that the things we see with our natural eyes are temporal and subject to change. The things we don’t see with our physical eyes are the things that last forever.
God
God is spirit (John 4:24) and can’t be seen with the natural eyes. God is His Word (John 1:1-3, 14). To see Him, hear Him, and know Him, we must look in His Word (II Corinthians 3:17-18). We can’t see Holy Spirit, but we can see His effects and feel Him, just like we do the wind.
Heaven
Heaven is not visible to us here on earth, but it is real, and one day we will see it. We will live there and experience all that God has prepared for us
Faith, Hope, and Love
Faith is an unseen force, but we can see its results (Mark 2:1-12). Hope is real, but we hope for what we don’t physically see. We hope and believe until we see it. Hope is unseen by the natural eyes (Romans 8:24-25). Love is real, but we only see it in how we treat one another. Love itself cannot be seen.
The New Birth
You can’t see that someone is born again inside. We know of the new birth only by His Word (John 3:1-15).
These are just some examples of eternal things that can’t be seen with the natural eye. We are to chase after God, the Eternal One, the One who is not seen with physical sight. However, faith says God is.
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Hebrews 11:6 (KJV)
Don’t work your whole life chasing after temporal things. Work for those things that are eternal and everlasting. The Book of Ecclesiastes speaks at length about this. Work as unto God and work for God, laying up treasures in heaven (Matthew 6:19-21). Value eternal things more than temporal ones.
… Whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. I Corinthians 10:31 (KJV)
By God’s Word, we can look at eternal things. As we live our lives by the Word of God and by the leading of His Spirit, we focus on and live for eternal things. Whatever we do for Jesus will last. Everything else will pass away. Don’t live your life in vain. Live to glorify God. Live a full life and empty yourself out, using all that God gave you. Then, when you get to heaven, your rewards will go before you, and you’ll be able to cast it all at the feet of Jesus in worship and adoration as a demonstration of a life well-lived.
