Why Give Up On a Fight You've Already Won?

Why Give Up On a Fight You've Already Won?

And the Lord said unto Joshua, Fear them not: for I have delivered them into thine hand; there shall not a man of them stand before thee. Joshua 10:8 (KJV)

God told Joshua that the battle was already won. The Lord promised that the enemy was delivered into his hand, so all Joshua and the Israelites had to do was fight the fight until the promised victory manifested. I’m sure the fighting was intense and took a lot of effort and energy. It was grueling, and It was not over in a few seconds; they had to go through the actual battle until they won what was already promised. The enemy does not give up without a fight, so we have to stay in it until we are declared victorious.

Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. I Timothy 6:12 (KJV)

We are called to fight, not just to sit and hope for victory. We know the outcome, and we just have to fight until the battle is over and our victory is realized. We are all faced with battles, and we are all expected to fight the good fight. Some battles are longer than others. Some are more difficult and daunting than others. Regardless, we must fight to win what God has guaranteed. We can’t give up on a fight we’ve already won.

  • You may be in a fight for your health, possibly your very life. Keep fighting.

  • You may be in a fight for your marriage or your family. Keep fighting.

  • You may be fighting to endure persecution. Keep fighting.

  • You may be fighting financially. Keep fighting.

  • You may be fighting a fight at your workplace. Keep fighting.

  • You may be fighting for mental/ emotional stability. Keep fighting.

  • You may be fighting for the restoration of your nation. Keep fighting.

The results are guaranteed by Almighty God, who never fails. If we simply keep pressing on in the fight, we win. The enemy can’t last forever. God is with us, and He’s not going anywhere. He already beat the devil, so the devil will eventually have to give up and move on.

We have powerful weapons:

  • The spoken Word of God. When you release the Word out of your mouth, it is a sword that skices and dices the enemy (Ephesians 6:17)

  • Praise. The devil absolutely hates it when we praise God because it shows him who we really serve, and it reminds him of the job he lost as the worship leader of heaven (II Chronicles 20:22).

  • Prayer, especially praying in tongues. When we pray, it introduces God into the situation. And praying in tongues confounds the enemy because he can’t understand it. Also, tongues builds up your inner man, giving you strength to endure to the end of the battle (Jude 1:20).

Why give up and walk away when the fight has been fixed in your favor? It’s in the bag. You just have to get in there and fight until you see it. Fight until it become sight. There are times when we think we just can’t fight anymore. We all get tired, but that is when we must go to the Lord and ask for strength and endurance. He’ll readily give it if we ask. Keep your eyes on God and on the reward, and your breakthrough will definitely come.
