Your Very Own Pentecost

Even unto the morrow after the seventh sabbath shall ye number fifty days; and ye shall offer a new meat offering unto the Lord. Ye shall bring out of your habitations two wave loaves of two tenth deals; they shall be of fine flour; they shall be baken with leaven; they are the firstfruits unto the Lord. Leviticus 23:16-17 (KJV)

Pentecost was a Jewish feast; a harvest ritual wherein the first fruits of grain were presented to God. On the Pentecost immediately after Jesus arose and ascended to the Father, 3,000 souls were saved. These represent the first fruits, indicating that more would be saved. Pentecost is symbolic of the harvest of souls.

And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. Acts 2:2-4 (KJV)

The Holy Spirit was be poured out on Pentecost. There were three physical indicators of this:

  • A sound as a mighty rushing wind.

  • Tongues of fire.

  • Speaking in other tongues.

The Wind of God’s Spirit

This speaks of movement and activity; the Spirit working in our hearts and lives. When He moves, He moves us into supernatural power to be a witness with signs following. He helps us to reach souls for Jesus.

Tongues of Fire

In the Old Testament, when Solomon offered sacrifices to the Lord, fire fell. Fire consumers and purifies. Holy Spirit sets us on fire for God, where we’re consumed with God. John the Baptist said that Jesus would baptize us with the Holy Ghost and fire.

No matter what fiery trial we face, we are to keep burning for God, fueled by Holy Spirit fire, to keep moving forward. People will come and see our fire, and they’ll be drawn to the Lord.

Other Tongues

They spoke in other tongues. That which was lost in the natural at the tower of Babel (Genesis 11) was restored in Acts supernaturally. Now we can all speak the language of God, a heavenly language. No one can mess it up. Tongues unifies those who believe and receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit, where the Spirit fills us and gives us the ability to speak in tongues to God. We can go and reach others so they too can be saved and filled.

Tongues is a sign to unbelievers; it gets their attention. For the believer, tongues is for edification, to build up our spiritual life. And we can receive fresh fillings of Holy Spirit to give us fresh fire to burn for God. We get new heavenly languages to speak to, and know God better.

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. Acts 2:38-39 (KJV)

Each believer can have their own personal Pentecost if they desire it. God chose to give us the Holy Spirit. It is up to us to choose to receive Holy Spirit and to be filled with Him over and over.

And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; Ephesians 5:18 (KJV)
