He Makes Us To Become
And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will MAKE YOU TO BECOME fishers of men. Mark 1:17 (KJV) emphasis mine
As we hear Jesus call us, we must answer the call to follow Him. The call is to know Jesus and have a relationship with Him. Each day, Jesus calls us to come to be with Him, to know Him, to hear Him and receive from Him. As we do, Jesus begins to make us who He wants us to be- fit to do and fulfill His assignment for us.
As we follow Jesus, we become who He calls us to be. We become who we are in Him. Jesus makes us new creations, then as we follow Him, He helps us to walk out who He made us. We live out a living faith with Christ.
We are called to be disciples of Christ. A disciple is one who follows His teacher’s instructions. A disciple is a learner, follower, and a student who follows and applies their rabbi’s, or their masterful teacher’s, teachings. The aim of the disciple is to become like his teacher or master. This alone is enough for the disciple- that he be as his master.
It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. Matthew 10:25 (KJV)
The more we hear and follow the teaching of Jesus, the more He uses His Word to make us into who He has called us to be. Following Him is transformative. We cannot stay the same if we are sincerely and consistently following the Master.
Jesus wants to make us fishers of men in all arenas of life. He sends us out because that’s where the people are. And where there are people, that’s where Jesus is looking to minister. Follow Jesus and His example to let Him make you into becoming all He’s called you to be.
Doing is important, but being is more important. Coupled with Christ, working together, we do what we do for Him because we are who we are: His disciples.
