Let God Rewrite Your Story

What has been is what will be, and what has been done is what will be done, and there is nothing new under the sun. Ecclesiastes 1:9 (English Standard Version, ESV)

This verse tells us that the past tells the future. It has been said that those who do not know history will repeat it.

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand— when I awake, I am still with you. Psalm 139:13-18 (New International Version, NIV)

Before the foundation of the world, God knew you and wrote your life in His Book of Life. History, whether good or bad, can be a prophetic picture of what life can be. However, we can choose to live for God and have a godly outcome. While it is true that there is nothing new under the sun, it is also true that we can become new under the Son. No matter how bad the past may have been, God can prophetically rewrite and speak good for your life. He can change things from bad to good, from bitter to sweet, from loss to gain. Prophetically, God can turn things around as we become born-again, filled with the Holy Spirit, and declare the Word of the Lord. By knowing and acting on God’s Word, we can have a good outcome, no matter what we’ve been through in the past.

God’s Word paints a different picture for our future. As we see the picture clearly, understanding the big picture and cooperating with it, our future is shaped into something new and beautiful. Verse by verse, day by day, step by step, let God rewrite your story. As we learn history, we can learn what to avoid and what to do. Building on our godly history and past, we can create a good future.
