We Are Anointed
But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things. I John 2:20 (KJV)
God has anointed us to know Him, to know Him as the truth, and to abide in Him. Unction in the original Greek is chrisma, which is an anointing, or a smearing. In the Old Testament, anointing originally meant to rub with a special oil mixed with aromatic herbs. In the New Testament, anointing is used to refer to Holy Spirit empowerment or enabling.
But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him. I John 2:27 (KJV)
The anointing IS the Holy Spirit. He’s the One who anointed Christ just as He anoints us. Christ actually means the Anointed One and His anointing. Holy Spirit enables us to know truth, for He’s the Spirit of Truth.
In conclusion, be strong in the Lord [be empowered through your union with Him]; draw your strength from Him [that strength which His boundless might provides]. Ephesians 6:10 (Amplified Bible Classic Edition, AMPC)
As we spend time with God, He rubs off on us. His presence and anointing increases in us and on us. We are empowered by our union with God.
I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. John 15:5 (KJV)
As we abide in Christ, we bear fruit and bring forth all God is and has for us. The more we spend time with God- in His Word, prayer, and worship- the more we receive from Him. We become equipped to be like Christ, to overcome, to know God, and to walk in knowledge and power. The anointing releases the gifts of the Spirit (I Corinthians 12:1-11). We will over come and walk in an anointing that blesses God, others, and ourselves.
As we flow and operate in the anointing, our lives will flow in God. And God will flow in and through us to bring the manifestation of God’s kingdom in power, letting people know that God is with us.
