Spiritual Laws
The Bible refers to laws a number of times. Let’s explore a few of the laws that God mentions in His Word.
God’s Law (The Law of the Father)
For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law; (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified. For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves: Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;) In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel. Behold, thou art called a Jew, and restest in the law, and makest thy boast of God, And knowest his will, and approvest the things that are more excellent, being instructed out of the law; Romans 2:12-17 (KJV)
The Law in this passage is referring to God’s written Word. We see how the Trinity operates- by God’s written Word. It ogverns how God does things. He rules by His Word. God’s Word is His Law. Within His written Word, He has set other laws in motion such as the law of sowing and reaping. He watches over Hos Word to fulfill it. As we speak God’s Word, we enforce God’s laws in our lives.
The Law of Love (The Law of the Son)
If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well: James 2:8 (KJV)
And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise. Luke 6:31 (KJV)
This is also called the law of Christ or the royal law. It is also called the golden rule. (Leviticus 19:18; Matthew 7:12; Matthew 22:39). The Law of Christ is love. The Trinity operates by love. There is no greater love than the love that lays its life down for another. We are to love others in the same manner we love ourselves and we are to treat them as we want to be treated. This all boils down to love. We are to let the love of Christ govern all we do. This is the law of relationships.
The Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus (The Law of the Spirit)
There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. Romans 8:1-2 (KJV)
This refers to Holy Spirit power operating in a believer. When we are born-again, the Holy Spirit gives us life. This law helps us to walk in who we are and have in Christ. This law works by speaking words that line up with God’s written Word. When His Word governs our lives, we are given life. The law, or the power, of the Holy Spirit made us free from the law of sin and death. Now we live by the Spirit’s law which gives us power and authority over sin and death. Holy Spirit gives us the ability to allow Christ to live His life through us. we have freedom and no condemnation. We walk in newness of life. We live by the life of God. We are free and have the power to live victorious in Christ.
As we let God’s Word, Christ’s love, and Holy Spirit’s power rule us, we allow God’s laws to dominate us, making us free to walk in our dominion and rule now in this life.
