In Word, In Song, On Instruments
Habakkuk was a prophet who played instruments and would sing and play instruments to prophesy rather than just speaking.
A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet upon Shigionoth. Habakkuk 3:1 (KJV)
Shigionoth means according to variable songs or tunes. If you read Chapter 3 of Habakkuk, you’ll see several mentions of selah, or musical interludes in Habakkuk’s song It refers to a vocal pause, a meditation, a change of instrumentation, or to modulate. Habakkuk played and prayed and prophesied his outcome.
Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation. The Lord God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds' feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places. To the chief singer on my stringed instruments. Habakkuk 3:18-19 (KJV)
Habakkuk started out praying then finished as a prophecy of better days.
Habakkuk prayed, sang, played his instruments, and prophesied. It was a song, a prayer on his instruments, as he danced and praised God. The original Hebrew text bears this out. Like Habakkuk, we can do the same. As we pray, praise, and play instruments, this creates a flow of the Spirit for the prophetic to come forth. It can be in utterance, with spoken words or in song. It can also be in prophetic playing of the instrruments. We can declare, sing, or play the Word of the Lord to proclaim the end result based on who God is, what He says in His Word, and what He is speaking by His Holy Spirit..
As we sing the prophetic song, the song of the Lord, Holy Spirit will move and bring the prophetic songs to pass- just as He did when God spoke the worlds into existence in Genesis 1. As we sing, we receive God’s creative power and ability.
Sing. Play. Prophesy. Then, watch God go into action and fulfill His Word for a good outcome.
Habakkuk says he will rejoice in the Lord, which means to jump for joy and spin around in the original Hebrew. When we rejoice in God, He becomes our strength and will make our feet sure like hind’s feet so we can walk upon the high places with Him.
