Seven Times A Day
I will praise you seven times a day because all your regulations are just. Psalm 119:164 (New Living Translation, NLT)
This Psalm speaks of praising God seven times a day. To go along with this theme, I have listed seven ways to praise Him according to the Hebrew words.
Yadah
Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name. Psalm 63:4 (KJV)
The word lift in this verse is yadah, which means to throw out the hand in worship, to praise, confess, speak out the worthiness of God. We can lift our hands as we praise and worship the Lord with our mouths.
Towdah
Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High: Psalm 50:14 (KJV)
Thanksgiving is towdah, which means an extension of the hand. We can extend our hands in gratitude to the Lord.
Halal
Praise ye the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power. Psalm 150:1 (KJV)
Praise is the word halal, which is where we get the word hallelujah. It means to shine, to make a show, to boast, to celebrate. This word is used throughout the Psalms. We are to boast about the Lord and celebrate Him and His marvelous works.
Shabach
One generation shall praise thy works to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts. Psalm 145:5 (KJV)
Praise, or Shabach, means to shout. We are to shout out loud about the works of the Lord.
Barak
O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the Lord our maker. Psalm 95:6 (KJV)
Barak means to kneel before to bless. We must bow before the King of kings. One day every knee shall bow.
Zamar
Be thou exalted, Lord, in thine own strength: so will we sing and praise thy power. Psalm 21:13 (KJV)
Praise in this verse is zamar, which means to touch the strings, to use the voice of instruments, to make music. We are to sing and play instruments to praise the Lord.
Tehillah
I will give thee thanks in the great congregation: I will praise thee among much people. Psalm 35:18 (KJV)
Praise is the Hebrew word tehillah, which means to sing, to laud, and can refer to chanted praise. It speaks of spontaneous songs. God inhabits and is enthroned in tehillah praise (Psalm 22:3). We rule with God through tehillah praise and establish God’s rule in our lives.
The psalmist spoke of praising God seven times a day. These seven ways to praise can give our praise variety and completeness. The number seven in the Bible represents completeness, wholeness, fullness. As we choose to praise God seven times a day in seven different ways, we can release God’s wholeness in our lives.
Perfected praise will perfect us and grow us up in Christ because we are praising the Living Word, Jesus. Therefore, His power is revealed and perfects that which concerns us. We praise God, the Word, using the Word, because the Word instructs us to.
Praise is to be a lifestyle, a pathway to greater glory and to experience God. It brings the greater goodness and all that God has for us. We receive greater grace by our praise. It releases all Christ died to provide. Keep praising God and using these seven creative ways to give Him praise. As a result, you will flow daily in God.
