Slam the Door in the Devil's Face
Neither give place to the devil. Ephesians 4:27 (KJV)
This tells us to give the devil no place in our lives. Why would we give the devil anything? We shouldn’t, yet we do at times. The devil found no place with Jesus because Jesus gave him no room or opportunity to get in.
The word place in Greek is topos, which means a specific area, a portion, or space, an occupancy, a marked location. Don’t give the devil a place- a foothold that can become a stronghold that can lead to a chokehold on you to destroy you. The devil is a legalist, meaning he is looking for any loophole, any access point, that will allow him legal access to get in and take us out.
Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth. Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. Ephesians 4:28-29 (KJV)
This passage gives us clues of ways we can give the devil a place in our lives such as stealing, corrupt (or ungodly) communication, and so forth. By wrong actions and words we can give the enemy entry into our lives. We must do right in order to prevent him access so that we can see right results in our lives. We aren’t trying to earn God’s favor by living right, but living right will keep the devil from getting in and hindering the plans of God for our lives.
Our words reflect what we think, feel, and what we hold in our hearts- love, hate, forgiveness, bitterness, etc. By our words we can speak good or evil. Do we curse people by speaking badly of them or to them? Do we harbor bad feelings towards those who misuse and mistreat us?
We can slam the door in the devil’s face by watching what we think, feel, say, and do in life. Notice the order I listed those. What we think affects what we feel, which affects what we say, which affects what we do. Therefore, if we can guard our thoughts, we can keep the enemy out. Don’t give the devil an area in your life by which he can defeat and destroy you.
The next time things are going wrong and you ask yourself, “What’s going on?”, check your thoughts, feelings, words, and actions to locate how satan got in. Close the door quickly by repenting of whatever you did to let him in. Then, begin to do whatever God tells you in His Word to do. Think right, speak right, and do right- and you’ll get the good results you desire.
Give no place, area, or opportunity to the devil. Rather, give all areas of your life over to the Lord, and watch God bless it all and make your life like a wonderful, peaceful, joy-filled land.
