A Perfect Heart

A Perfect Heart

For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. II Chronicles 16:9 (KJV)

In the context of the verse, Hanani, the Seer, was speaking the Word of the Lord to King Asa, delivering a prophetic rebuke to him for not relying on the Lord as he had in times past. Asa’s heart was divided. He once relied on the Lord, but now he relied on the help of man to win a battle. when he had relied on God in battle, God had given him the victory.

In the verse above, a perfect heart in Hebrew means a heart that is whole, undivided, full, and complete. God knows whose hearts are completely His and those whose hearts are divided. We must have a perfect and undivided heart that belongs totally to the Lord, with none of it belonging to the world.

Asa eventually got a disease and died. The Bible tells us he went to physicians, but not to God for healing. I am not condeming anyone for going to doctors. God can use doctors to support our healing. However, it is wrong to rely on man over God. When we are attacked in our health, our first thought should be to go to the Lord. Asa had a life and death situation and he chose to use only natural means to try to preserve His life, and it cost him dearly. God is the source of life and we must choose Life in order to live.

As our hearts are perfect, undivided, and relying on God above the knowledge of men, God will show Himself strong on our behalf. When our hearts are perfect towards the Lord, we will see the impossible become possible, becuase all things are possible with God.

Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. Mark 9:23 (KJV)

And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God. Luke 18:27 (KJV)
